The Ponte Vedra Sharks will take on the Atlantic Coast Stingrays at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ponte Vedra has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight losses, while Atlantic Coast will come in with 15 straight victories.
Ponte Vedra managed to slip by Nease the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Sharks came up short against the Panthers on Tuesday, falling 14-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Sharks have suffered against the Panthers since February 25, 2022.
Abby Shin was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Atlantic Coast was able to grind out a solid win over First Coast on Monday, taking the game 8-4.
Morgan Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on 12 hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Amia Hladik was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Stella Lynton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Atlantic Coast's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Ponte Vedra, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ponte Vedra hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Atlantic Coast struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ponte Vedra beat Atlantic Coast 6-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sharks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
