It was a good run, but the Le Roy Oatkan Knights unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Friday. They received a tough blow as they fell 61-46 to Avon. Le Roy has not had much luck with Avon recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Le Roy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Merritt Holly Jr.. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 45.7% of Le Roy's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jake Higgins was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Le Roy's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-3. As for Avon, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Le Roy will take on Geneseo at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Avon's road trip will continue as they head out to face York at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. One thing working in York's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
