Newman Central Catholic has gone 9-1 against Kewanee recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Comets will host the Boilermakers at 4:30 p.m. Newman Central Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Kewanee will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Newman Central Catholic extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Comets put the hurt on Sherrard with a sharp 10-3 win. Newman Central Catholic's victory was all the more impressive since the Tigers were averaging only 4.06 runs allowed on the season.
Newman Central Catholic got a massive performance out of Ashton Miner, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Miner has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Garet Wolfe, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Kewanee posted their closest win since March 25th on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Mercer County 5-4.
Brady Schiltz and Ben Taylor did most of the damage at the plate: Schiltz got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Taylor went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Kewanee is 4-2 when Taylor posts two or more runs, but 6-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Conley, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Newman Central Catholic's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Kewanee, their victory bumped their record up to 10-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Newman Central Catholic has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Kewanee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Newman Central Catholic took their win against Kewanee in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-3 score. Do the Comets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Boilermakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
