Football Game Preview: Mt. Eden Monarchs vs. American Eagles

Two dominant backs in TAYLOR WILLIAMS and Jordan Garcia are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mt. Eden Monarchs will face off against the American Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mt. Eden will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

Mt. Eden is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Encinal 40-7 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

JOHNATHAN SANTIAGO went supernova, rushing for 97 yards and one TD on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 48 yards and one touchdown. He is becoming a predictor of Mt. Eden's success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is 2-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't).

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mt. Eden was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 266 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 89.2 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five games they've averaged 166.

Meanwhile, American was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 35-6 loss at the hands of Arroyo. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 21-0.

American's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Mt. Eden, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.

Everything came up roses for Mt. Eden against American in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 42-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Monarchs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
