Lovington and Eunice are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will venture away from home to challenge the Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lovington has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Eunice will arrive with ten straight victories.
Things were looking good for Lovington after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 13-2 to Roswell.
Lovington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Juan Sepulveda, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Sepulveda has launched this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Eunice). They were the clear victors by an 18-2 margin over Jal on Tuesday. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.
Elijah Melancon looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Randy Gallegos was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian De Leon, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Eunice was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in ten consecutive contests.
Lovington's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Eunice, their record is now 10-1.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lovington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Eunice struggles in that department as they've averaged .392. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Lovington's way against Eunice in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Lovington made off with a 14-5 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
