The University City Centurions's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Hoover Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. University City has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 379 points over their last six games.
University City posted their biggest victory since December 15, 2023 on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Madison as University City made off with a 65-44 victory. Given University City's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while Madison is ranked 558th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dylan Griffin and Ben Gavani were among the main playmakers for University City as the former scored 21 points along with five rebounds and the latter scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Griffin has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyshaun Harris, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Hoover pushed their score all the way to 58 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of San Diego by a score of 61-58. Hoover has struggled against San Diego recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
University City pushed their record up to 16-7 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for Hoover, their loss dropped their record down to 15-9.
University City came out on top in a nail-biter against Hoover in their previous meeting on January 5th, sneaking past 54-51. The rematch might be a little tougher for University City since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
