Baseball Game Preview: Snohomish Panthers vs. Stanwood Spartans

Snohomish has gone a perfect 10-0 against Stanwood recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. Snohomish will be playing at home against Stanwood at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Snohomish sitting on four straight wins and Stanwood on five.

While Snohomish didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Monroe on Monday as Snohomish made off with a 7-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won three matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Trevor Vorderbruggen tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Landon Klein and Reve LeRoux did most of the damage at the plate: Klein scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while LeRoux scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Those three hits gave Klein a new career-high. Breckin Davisson also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Stanwood owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. They walked away with a 5-0 win over Marysville-Pilchuck.

Corban Forslund was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Gehrman, who scored a run and stole two bases.

Stanwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Snohomish's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average this season. As for Stanwood, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Snohomish skirted past Stanwood 3-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Snohomish repeat their success, or does Stanwood has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
