It was a good run, but Monrovia unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 71-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Beech Grove Hornets. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (57), the Bulldogs still had to take the loss.
Monrovia's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zoie Walls, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 boards. Walls is becoming a predictor of Monrovia's success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 6-1 (and 4-6 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Emery Newlin, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 17 points and three steals.
Beech Grove's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mylee Boling, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 boards. Boling is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Emma Micks was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
Monrovia's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-7. As for Beech Grove, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Monrovia wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 63-12 victory against Indianapolis Lutheran on the 20th. As for Beech Grove, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-10 win against Indianapolis Arsenal Technical on the 21st.
