The El Capitan Vaqueros will be taking part in a tournament against the Del Norte Nighthawks at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (El Capitan 2, Del Norte 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
El Capitan picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They came out on top against Helix by a score of 7-3. The Vaqueros haven't had any issues with the Highlanders recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Addison Higuera made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Higuera was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Ciara Bernardini and Gabrielle Garcia did most of the damage at the plate: Bernardini went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple, while Garcia went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Bernardini a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sofia Simone, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
El Capitan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Helix only posted a batting average of .208.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Del Norte, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Point Loma 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Nighthawks have posted since May 2, 2025.
Like El Capitan, Del Norte also got a great game from a two-way player: Brooklyn Giaime. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Giaime has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gia Gerardi, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Alexis Kyles also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Del Norte now has a winning record of 3-2. As for El Capitan, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. El Capitan has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Del Norte struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
El Capitan came out on top in a nail-biter against Del Norte when the teams last played back in April of 2019, sneaking past 6-5. Do the Vaqueros have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Nighthawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
