The Powell County Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bluegrass United Bluehawks at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Powell County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Bluegrass United likes a good challenge.
Powell County pushed their score all the way to 67 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 75-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of Estill County.
Bluegrass United posted their biggest victory since December 9, 2023 on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 65-25 victory over Richmond HomeSchool at home. With Bluegrass United ahead 34-13 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Bluegrass United found their leader in underclassman Jeremiah Stiefel, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Stiefel has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elliot Higginbotham, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Powell County's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-8. As for Bluegrass United, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.
