Gianna Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Kayla Fullalove-Silveira was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Bertoldi, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs.
Monte Vista Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They are 6-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Rancho San Juan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 13-2 to North Monterey County.
Alina Thorton was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Bella Garcia, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double.
Monte Vista Christian's victory bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Rancho San Juan, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
Rancho San Juan's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Monte Vista Christian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Rancho San Juan, though, as they've been averaging 10.9 hits. Given Monte Vista Christian's sizable advantage in that area, the Trailblazers will need to find a way to close that gap.
