Penns Manor had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 2-12 to make it 13. They came up short against the River Valley Panthers, falling 10-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 on Tuesday.
Connor James made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.
As for River Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-11 record this season. The contest marked their most dominant victory of the season.
On River Valley's side, Gavin Burkhart and Chase Stuchal were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Burkhart tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Stuchal tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for River Valley: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 4-10 otherwise. At the plate, Burkhart went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Stuchal went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Stuchal has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sammy Yanits, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. River Valley is 2-1 when Yanits posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Caden Vresilovic was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Coming up, Penns Manor will square off against Purchase Line at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for River Valley, they will take on West Shamokin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolves have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
