The Gallia Academy Blue Devils scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Portsmouth and snuck past 60-57. The win was some much needed relief for Gallia Academy as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
When it comes to explaining why Portsmouth lost, one person who can't be blamed is Deandre Berry. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 31 points and 14 rebounds. Berry has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Donnovan Breech, who scored nine points.
Gallia Academy's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-12. As for Portsmouth, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.
Gallia Academy will head out on the road to square off against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chesapeake presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Blue Devils in Ohio (the Panthers are ranked 172nd, while the Blue Devils are ranked 518th). As for Portsmouth, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Green Devils at 7:30 p.m. on January 27th. North Adams will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
