Those 205 rushing yards gave Lockhart a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruben Hatcher, who rushed for 98 yards and three scores on only five carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: West Grand was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 460 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 213 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.
West Grand didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ethan Barr.
Meanwhile, Hayden hadn't done well against Vail Christian recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Tigers breezed past the Saints to the tune of 72-28. With the Tigers ahead 52-22 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Hayden's win came from a few key players West Grand will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Peyton Johnson, who rushed for 199 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.7 yards per carry, and also threw for 76 yards and one TD. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 110.6 rushing yards per game. Friday's game might be decided on the ground. West Grand has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 258.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Hayden struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 302.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
West Grand strolled past Hayden in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 by a score of 46-32. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
