Softball Recap: Meridian Extends Winning Streak to Three

Meridian waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Central A & M Raiders. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Hawks also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Ashley Schelling made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Meridian let Madi Kapchinske and Layla Lucas run wild. Kapchinske scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Lucas scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, Lucas posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Emma Childers also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meridian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Meridian's record now sits at 6-1. As for Central A & M, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-4.

Coming up, Meridian will head out to take on Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hawks 3.3, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Central A & M, they will host Warrensburg-Latham at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.75 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
