The Corvian Community Cardinals will face off against the Langtree Charter Academy Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Corvian Community has given up an average of 13.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Corvian Community couldn't beat Mountain Island Charter last Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Cardinals came up short against the Raptors, falling 20-5. The Cardinals have struggled against the Raptors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Emily Johnson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in both of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Amaree Joines, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Langtree Charter Academy). They put the hurt on Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy with a sharp 20-8 win on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Lions needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Halen Hazlett was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, nine RBI, and three runs. Those nine RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Langtree Charter Academy let Reese Horton and Addison Longino run wild. Horton went 1-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Longino got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. That's the most runs Longino has posted since back in April of 2024. Myonna Butler was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Langtree Charter Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Langtree Charter Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-12. As for Corvian Community, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
