Poly has gone a perfect 10-0 against JW North recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bears will head out on the road to square off against the Huskies at 3:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Poly barely beat Arlington the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bears were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Lions on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won seven in a row.
Marley Audoma made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Violet Espin, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassandra Ayala, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Poly always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arlington only posted an OBP of .379.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, JW North made sure to put some runs up on the board against Liberty on Tuesday. The Huskies blew past the Bison 14-5.
Like Poly, JW North also got a great game from a two-way player: Anela Kinnevey. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off ten hits. Kinnevey was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, JW North got a massive performance out of Xochitl Frias, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Jade Jorrin was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Poly's record is now 14-7. As for JW North, their record now sits at 11-8.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Poly hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like JW North struggles in that department as they've averaged .374. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Poly's way against JW North in their previous meeting back in April of 2019, as Poly made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
