The Surry Central Golden Eagles entered their tilt with the Starmount Rams with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Surry Central came out on top against Starmount by a score of 51-38 on Wednesday. Given Surry Central's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while Starmount is ranked 437th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Surry Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Layla Wall, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Wall hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Presley Smith, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Despite the defeat, Starmount had strong showings from Molly Swaim, who scored 11 points along with three steals, and Carley Money, who scored nine points.
Starmount struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Surry Central pulled down 20 offensive rebounds.
Surry Central's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. As for Starmount, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Surry Central will take on Wilkes Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Wilkes Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Wednesday. As for Starmount, they will be playing at home against North Stokes at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
