The Central City/Centura Kernels will take on the Lincoln Christian Crusaders at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Central City/Centura is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
Central City/Centura is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They came out on top against Fort Calhoun by a score of 9-6.
Colbyn Peters made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Luke Vakiner was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Hayden Murphy was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Christian got the win against Fort Calhoun on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-1. The Crusaders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Like Central City/Centura, Lincoln Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Eilam Bryson. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Bryson was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grant DeHaan, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ian Brester, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Lincoln Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Calhoun only posted a batting average of .235.
Lincoln Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Central City/Centura, their win bumped their record up to 23-1.
Central City/Centura beat Lincoln Christian 10-7 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Kernels since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
