Waldron is 2-8 against Triton Central since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Waldron Mohawks will head out on the road to face off against the Triton Central Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Waldron focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
Waldron couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 59-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Knightstown. The matchup was a 25-25 toss-up at halftime, but Waldron was outscored by Knightstown in the second.
Lucas Shaw put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 24 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Lindsey, who scored 7 points.
Meanwhile, Triton Central was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 49-44 to Shelbyville.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Eli Sego, who scored 18 points along with 3 steals. He scored a full 40.9% of Triton Central's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Max Crouse, who scored 9 points.
Waldron's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Triton Central, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Things could have been worse for Waldron, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 68-54 loss to Triton Central when the teams last played back in January. Can Waldron avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
