Manheim Central has gone 8-2 against Garden Spot recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Barons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Manheim Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Manheim Central is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Palmyra just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Thursday. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 13-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Barons have suffered since March 26th.
Manheim Central got a good showing from Jordan King, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Manheim Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chase Book, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Garden Spot gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Reading with a sharp 11-5 win. Considering the Spartans have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Garden Spot also got a great performance from Caden Simonis as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Simonis a new career-high.
At the plate, Ryder Hertzler was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Garden Spot is 2-1 when Hertzler posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brody Torrance, who went 1-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base.
Garden Spot kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
The victory made it two in a row for Garden Spot and bumps their season record up to 6-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Manheim Central, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Manheim Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Garden Spot struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Manheim Central's way against Garden Spot in their previous matchup on Tuesday, as Manheim Central made off with a 17-11 victory. Will the Barons repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
