The East St. Louis Flyers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 83-68 victory over Mt. Vernon. The win was nothing new for East St. Louis as they're now sitting on five straight.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East St. Louis to victory, but perhaps none more so than Robert McCline, who scored 29 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McCline has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Davis Bynum, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds.
Mt. Vernon's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was David Barnes, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Navontae D nesbit jr., who scored 23 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
East St. Louis has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Mt. Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-6.
East St. Louis will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Alton at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Alton will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Mt. Vernon won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Salem at 6:00 p.m. on January 20th. Salem will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 291st, while Mt. Vernon is ranked 44th).
