The Elk Mound Mounders will head out on the road to face off against the Northwestern Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, Elk Mound earned a 13-6 victory over Neillsville/Granton.
Meanwhile, Northwestern had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 49 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past Bloomer 56-8 at home. The result was nothing new for Northwestern, who have now won six contests by 30 points or more so far this season.
Among those leading the charge was Cooper Lawton, who rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Lawton was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards.
Elk Mound's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-5. Northwestern has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in eight of their first nine matches, giving them a 8-1 record.
