The Castle Knights will take on the Gibson Southern Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Castle is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season.
Castle is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Evansville Central just ended the team's four-game winning streak last Wednesday. They fell 59-47 to the Bears. The Knights were down 51-30 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jordan Scott, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 12 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Izabell Grantz, who went 6 for 15 en route to 14 points and five boards.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Gibson Southern had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Huskies by a score of 61-51. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Titans.
Gibson Southern's win came from a few key players Castle will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Gabby Spink, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 22 points and five rebounds. She has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Taylor Weyer was another key player, putting up 11 points.
Gibson Southern is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.4 points per game. As for Castle, their loss dropped their record down to 15-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Castle has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 23.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Gibson Southern struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything went Castle's way against Gibson Southern in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as Castle made off with a 58-32 win. Will Castle repeat their success, or does Gibson Southern have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
