Apple Valley extended their winning streak to nine on Wednesday, bumping them up to 16-9-1. They were the clear victors by a 19-4 margin over the Sultana Sultans. Considering the Sun Devils have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Makaylee Cerf was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Apple Valley got a massive performance out of Khloe Beserra, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Liza Lozano, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Apple Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
As for Sultana, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-17-1 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games.
On Sultana's side, they saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camilla Casillas, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Mickee Crowe was another, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apple Valley will challenge Oak Hills at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Sun Devils will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least ten runs in their last nine matchups. As for Sultana, they will square off against Burroughs at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Burros have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.25 runs per game on average), something the Sultans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
