It was a good run, but the Dunnellon Tigers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell to Gainesville 61-57. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Dunnellon came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Gainesville is ranked 267th).
Loss or not, Dunnellon got some senior leadership from Tatiana Matthews who scored 32 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 steals and Princess Hardin who scored 21 points along with 7 rebounds. Matthews scored a full 56.1% of Dunnellon's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Jayden Terry was the offensive standout of the match as she scored 30 points. The game was her third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Mullins, who scored 15 points.
Dunnellon's defeat dropped their record down to 3-1. As for Gainesville, their win bumped their record up to 1-4.
Dunnellon is on the road again on Monday and play against Springstead at 6:00 p.m. on December 4th. Hopefully Springstead focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Thursday. As for Gainesville, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Buchholz at 7:00 p.m.
