Softball Recap: Manzano Comes Up Short

If Manzano was riding high fresh off their 17-2 takedown of Del Norte on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Monarchs fell just short of the Rio Grande Ravens by a score of 18-17 on Tuesday. Even though they lost, the Monarchs' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.4 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Shania Aragon and Luz Antonio did some serious damage despite the final result: Aragon went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Antonio went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Topley, who went 1-for-6 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Manzano has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Rio Grande, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4.

Manzano and Rio Grande will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Monarchs will take on rival La Cueva at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Rio Grande is set to face off against their familiar foe Albuquerque at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
