Softball Recap: Chipley Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

There's no place like home for Chipley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Vernon Yellowjackets with a sharp 11-4 victory on Friday. Considering the Tigers have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Chipley let Olivia Brown and Abigail Thompson run wild. Brown scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Thompson scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave Brown a new career-high. Kenzlee Nelson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Chipley is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Vernon, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-10.

Looking ahead, Chipley will take on Cottondale at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Vernon, they will head out on the road to face off against Bozeman at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Yellowjackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bucks have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
