In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 74-73 win over Southland Christian. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Leading Vine Christian Academy to victory were Keniel Velez and Luis Carias. Velez dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Carias dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. Carias continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gilbert Oquendo, who scored six points.
Southland Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Pellot, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Pellot is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. JOMAR COLLAZO was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Vine Christian Academy now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Southland Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 20-9.
