Show Low and Blue Ridge are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Show Low is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Show Low didn't have quite enough to beat Snowflake and fell 8-7. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by just one run.
Karter Alexander and Nick Hall did some serious damage despite the final result: Alexander scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Hall went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Mackenzie, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Blue Ridge entered their tilt with Holbrook on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Roadrunners 9-2. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Graesyn Kendzlic was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Kaden Edgington, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Blue Ridge hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holbrook struck out 11 times.
This is the second loss in a row for Show Low and nudges their season record down to 13-8. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Blue Ridge, they pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Show Low has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like Blue Ridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .450. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Show Low might still be hurting after the 17-6 defeat they got from Blue Ridge in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
