Basketball Recap: Bloomfield Falls Despite Big Games from Avery Bargman and Madyson Mlady

Bloomfield lost against Niobrara/Verdigre back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Bloomfield Bees took a 56-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars. The Bees have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Bloomfield's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Madyson Mlady, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards, and Avery Bargman, who posted 14 points. Those 14 points gave Bargman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kora Poppe, who had five points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Bloomfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Niobrara/Verdigre was led to victory by Taylen Stark and Eve Kucera. Stark went 6 of 9 on her way to 17 points along with seven steals and six assists, while Kucera went 9 of 17 on her way to 20 points and five rebounds. Kucera is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Delani Runnels was another key player, putting up ten points and five steals.

Bloomfield's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Niobrara/Verdigre, their victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-2.

Bloomfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 52-34 win against Wakefield on the 17th. As for Niobrara/Verdigre, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 43-32 victory against Hartington-Newcastle on the 17th.
