This season hasn't been kind to the East Ridge Knights, who are still winless after their 18th game. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 63-38 walloping at the hands of South Lake on Friday. East Ridge has not had much luck with South Lake recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why East Ridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nicholas Vazquez. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Vazquez has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Corman, who scored two points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, East Ridge were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. This was only their 11th loss (out of 11 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Lake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alijah Curry, who scored 12 points. Ryan Clark was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
East Ridge bumped their record down to 0-18 with that loss, which was their tenth straight on the road. As for South Lake, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Ridge will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Umatilla at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Hopefully Umatilla focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Thursday. As for South Lake, they will head out on the road to take on Mount Dora at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mount Dora will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 615th, while South Lake is ranked 237th).
