There's no place like home for the Mt. Vernon Wildcats, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Friday. They strolled past Mt. Carmel with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 55-36. Given Mt. Vernon's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 75th in Indiana, while Mt. Carmel is ranked 382nd in Illinois), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nicot Burnett continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 28 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Burnett has scored at least 25% of Mt. Vernon's points. Meyer Robb was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Mt. Carmel lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Shain Meador, who scored 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Meador has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Levi Beesley, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Mt. Vernon pushed their record up to 4-1 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 36.67 points. As for Mt. Carmel, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will challenge Gibson Southern at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Mt. Carmel, they will head out on the road to face off against Flora at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Flora is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
