The Irondequoit Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 54-46 to Gates Chili. Irondequoit was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Gates Chili apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Irondequoit's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kailey Besio, who scored 22 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Besio has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ellie Bottiglier, who scored eight points along with five assists and two steals.
Even though they lost, Irondequoit were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Irondequoit's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-11. As for Gates Chili, their victory bumped their record up to 4-10.
Irondequoit will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Spencerport at 7:15 p.m. Spencerport presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Irondequoit in New York (Spencerport is ranked 219th, while Irondequoit is ranked 456th). As for Gates Chili, they will head out on the road to face off against Pittsford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
