After flying high against the Edison Spartans last Saturday, the Elmira Express came back down to earth. Elmira fell 74-65 to the Golden Bears on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (60), Elmira still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Elmira still got an impressive performance from Mariah Matias, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. Matias is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last 11 games she's played. Ellie Clearwater was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Even though they lost, Elmira were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Elmira's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Vestal, their win bumped their record up to 1-2.
Elmira won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Cardinals at 7:15 p.m. on January 31st. As for Vestal, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Wildcats at 7:15 p.m.
