Halifax is a perfect 10-0 against Juniata since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Wildcats will face off against the Indians at 4:30 p.m. Halifax is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Halifax is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Tri-Valley just ended the team's 11-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 8-4 to the Bulldogs. Wildcats fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Bulldogs since on Tuesday.
Josh Zahurak made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Dayton Bittner also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Juniata never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Line Mountain on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Eagles 14-13. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Gage Harlon was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Juniata: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-6-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, Garrett Imes was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Bryce Harlon was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Juniata kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are undefeated (2-0) when they post 11 or more hits.
Halifax's loss dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Juniata, they now have a winning record of 7-6-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Halifax has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Juniata struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Halifax beat Juniata 6-3 in their previous matchup on April 4th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
