Baseball Recap: Airport Finds Home Field Redemption Against Brookland-Cayce

There's no place like home for Airport, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They came out on top against the Brookland-Cayce Bearcats by a score of 12-9 on Tuesday. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Brice Gillette made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Cash Epps looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Brayden Dunlap was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braden Gross, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Airport always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brookland-Cayce only posted an OBP of .389.

Airport's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Brookland-Cayce, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.

Airport will have a chance to go back-to-back against Brookland-Cayce: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
