Firth has gone 8-2 against Salmon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Cougars will square off against the Savages at 1:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Saturday, Firth beat North Fremont 10-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Cooper Park was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Vasquez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Salmon never let their opponents score on Saturday. They blew past West Jefferson 16-0. Considering the Savages have won 15 matchups by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Reuel McCallum was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Pilkerton, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Eli Pakuer, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Salmon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Jefferson only posted an OBP of .333.
Firth's win bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Salmon, their victory bumped their record up to 18-4.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Firth has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like Salmon struggles in that department as they've averaged .553. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
