The Auburn Mountainview Lions managed to keep up with the Auburn Riverside Ravens until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Auburn Mountainview suffered a tough 32-12 defeat at the hands of Auburn Riverside. Auburn Mountainview was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Auburn Riverside apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Despite the loss, Auburn Mountainview still got an impressive performance from Mande 'john' Wanlemvo, who picked up 95 receiving yards and a touchdown. Wanlemvo was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 67 yards. Jayshawn Moody got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Thyrou Umi-Tuato'o was on fire for Auburn Riverside: he rushed for 199 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyree Wright, who rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Auburn Mountainview to a paltry 146 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Auburn Riverside's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Diego Flores and his 3.5 sacks.
Auburn Mountainview's loss was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 4-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-1 Auburn and 6-2 Bainbridge (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60.5% over those games). As for Auburn Riverside, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Auburn Mountainview will be playing in front of their home fans against Tahoma at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Tahoma will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last. As for Auburn Riverside, they will head out on the road to face off against Auburn at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Auburn will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
