The Weir Red Riders will face off against the University Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Weir comes in on four and University on six.
Weir is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Parkersburg South, who was ranked 16th at the time (Weir was ranked 14th). The Red Riders never let the Patriots get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Riders have posted since March 27th.

The team relied heavily on Lila Boilegh, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, University's hitters rose to the challenge against a Golden Bears pitching crew that boasted an average of only 3.45 runs allowed on Tuesday. The Hawks blew past Oak Glen 13-2. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Maddie Campbell was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Campbell was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Adalyn Brown was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Olivia Masoner was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
University always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Glen only posted an OBP of .300.
Weir's victory bumped their record up to 21-7. As for University, their win bumped their record up to 23-5.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Weir hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Weir couldn't quite get it done against University in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 as they fell 4-1. Can the Red Riders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
