The Osceola Kowboys's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Lake Wales at home and fell 66-11. While losing is never fun, Osceola can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 526th, while Lake Wales is ranked 110th).
Despite the loss, Osceola saw an underclassman step up: Patricia Rodriguez scored five points. Rodriguez scored a full 45.5% of Osceola's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Lake Wales' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Vanessa Squire, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds. The matchup was Squire's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper Fennessy, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Osceola's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Lake Wales, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-3.
Osceola will be home for the holidays to greet Cornerstone Charter Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Cornerstone Charter Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games. Lake Wales' road trip will continue as they head out to face Vero Beach at 7:00 p.m. on December 16th. Hopefully Vero Beach focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday.
