The Capuchino Mustangs will challenge the Milpitas Trojans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Capuchino is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
Capuchino came out on top against Aragon on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Mustangs took their game against the Dons 9-4.
Lola Sierra made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Dana Motroni was incredible, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Avery Motroni was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one double and one RBI.
Capuchino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aragon only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Milpitas, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over Wilcox on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Trojans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Marissa Gil spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits.
At the plate, Milpitas got a massive performance out of Chloe Cabrera, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Destiny Solis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Capuchino's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Milpitas, their victory bumped their record up to 5-13.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Capuchino hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like Milpitas struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Capuchino was able to grind out a solid win over Milpitas in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 7-3. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
