Basketball Recap: Allison Swift's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Decatur over Wicomico

Decatur has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 63-52 to the Wicomico Indians on Saturday. The Seahawks lost against the Indians in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 67-24 score last time.

Decatur's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Allison Swift, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Swift is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Maleah Blake, who went 8 of 16 en route to 17 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Decatur smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Wicomico got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Se'Lah Foreman out in front who went 11 for 26 on her way to 26 points in addition to five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlisa Johnson, who went 5 of 11 en route to 14 points along with six boards and four steals.

Decatur's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Wicomico, they pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Decatur will take on Pocomoke at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Decatur is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.7 points per game this season. As for Wicomico, they will face off against Crisfield at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wicomico also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 56.8 points per game.
