Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Northwest Mustangs, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell to Sweet Springs 36-32. Northwest's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Northwest's lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jason Boss, who rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and also picked up 52 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Dane Palmer, who threw for 115 yards and three touchdowns.
Leading Sweet Springs to victory were Braden Knipmeyer and Seth Rader. Knipmeyer gained 85 total yards and three touchdowns, while Rader rushed for 235 yards and two touchdowns.
Northwest now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Sweet Springs, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.
Northwest does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Sweet Springs is on the road again on Friday and play against St. Paul Lutheran. St. Paul Lutheran knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Sweet Springs likes a good challenge.
