The Archbishop Carroll Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Cypress Bay Lightning at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Archbishop Carroll is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Archbishop Carroll gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victor by a 16-5 margin over Coral Park. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.
STEVEN NUNEZ looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.
At the plate, JONATHAN DIAZ was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February of 2024. GUSTAVO ULPINO also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Archbishop Carroll always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Cypress Bay posted their closest win since March 11, 2024 on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Nova 2-1.
Gabe Gener spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Cypress Bay is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-4 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on John Escobar, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Parilli, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one double.
The win got Cypress Bay back to even at 5-5. As for Archbishop Carroll, the victory got them back to even at 5-5-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Archbishop Carroll has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cypress Bay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
