The Hubbard Eagles couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 52-43 to Springfield on Wednesday. Hubbard lost against Springfield in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 44-35 score last time.
Hubbard's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rheanna Barr, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds. Jillian Palumbo was another key contributor, scoring 5 points along with 5 steals.
Jameka Brungard was on fire for Springfield: she dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Vecchione, who scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals.
Hubbard's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Springfield, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hubbard will take on Garfield at 7:00 p.m. on November 30th. As for Springfield, they will be playing at home against Crestview at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
