The Scotland Fighting Scots had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They managed a 47-41 win over Union Pines. Given Scotland's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while Union Pines is ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alicia McClain continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. McClain is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Morgan Thompson, who scored ten points along with six assists and four steals.
Union Pines lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alley Hise, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. Hise hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Taryn Pekala was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five assists and four steals.
Scotland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. As for Union Pines, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-9.
Scotland will head out on the road to face off against Pinecrest at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pinecrest focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday. As for Union Pines, they will head out on the road to square off against Richmond at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Richmond knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Union Pines likes a good challenge.
