The Central Cambria Red Devils will head out to square off against the Penn Cambria Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Central Cambria comes in on four and Penn Cambria on five.
Central Cambria will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Bellwood-Antis on Thursday. The Red Devils had just enough and edged out the Blue Devils 11-9.
Grady Snyder was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. What's more, he posted three runs, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Blake Coposky also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Central Cambria was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bellwood-Antis only posted a batting average of .355.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Penn Cambria and Bishop Carroll meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 23-11 margin over the Huskies. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Panthers this season.
The team relied heavily on Ayden Himmer, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Gibbons, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Central Cambria pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs across that stretch. As for Penn Cambria, their record is now 7-2.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Central Cambria hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .376. However, it's not like Penn Cambria struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Central Cambria beat Penn Cambria 13-9 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
