Basketball Recap: Tooele Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Mason Heap and Crew Lewis

Tooele was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a hard 73-54 fall against the Murray Spartans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Buffaloes of the 75-73 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Crew Lewis and Mason Heap certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Lewis went 8 for 12 on his way to 20 points, while Heap went 5 of 12 en route to 18 points. The matchup was Heap's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grady Symonds, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 10 points.

Damani Wilkerson was his usual excellent self, going 10 for 14 on his way to 31 points in addition to six boards and three steals for Murray. The dominant performance gave Wilkerson a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Beh, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 18 points in addition to seven assists and six boards.

Tooele's loss dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Murray, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-8.

Tooele wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 54-30 defeat against Hillcrest on the 14th. As for Murray, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 84-62 victory against Park City on the 14th.
