6A Region 8 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Austin extended the longest winning streak in 6A Region 8 this week by beating Athens, 34-0. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Decatur moved up to 37 from 67 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 21-14 win over Hartselle helped the Red Raiders improve their standing.
Decatur's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jackson Fite threw for 73 yards and Harold Blades had 24 yards receiving. On the ground Josh Matthews chipped in 67 yards. Jordan Tibbs helped Decatur's passing attack out by catching two balls for 22 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Fite and Matthews Jere Adcock's team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Fite leads the league in passing with 348 yards, while Matthews has rushed for 418 yards this season. Hazel Green's Christopher J. Ungacta leads the league in receiving yards with 150 on nine catches.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Austin takes on the Trojans. Jeremy Perkins's team has allowed 71 points this season, while Hazel Green has given up 60.
The Black Bears took down the Golden Eagles 34-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
